Use your regular email such as Gmail, Outlook, or Thunderbird, or an email service provider app on your mobile or tablet to send and receive emails and messages, using your Yahoo Mail. Yes, whichever email service you are using you can access that email in Yahoo mail as well. For constructing such Yahoo email settings, you need to perform a few steps which include IMAP settings. The change in the settings will ensure that you can access all mail-in Yahoo folders. Thus, this feature will allow you to access all emails in Yahoo in both apps and browsers.
To get this access in your Yahoo email setting you need to configure SMTP settings to send mail.
What are IMAP, SMTP, and POP?
The Internet Mail Access Protocol (IMAP) is the feature in the mail that allows users for receiving and viewing of the message. Simple mail transport Protocol (SMTP), allows users to send outbound messages. When users configure IMAP they also need to configure SMTP to setup yahoo email.
Yahoo email also supports POP that is, Post Office Protocol. It is an older email standard that governs the receiving of messages. If you are completely convinced of avoiding using it, then delete it from the server. Therefore, it will only available on the device onto which it was downloaded. In contrast to this, IMAP syncs messages with the server. Thus, if you use three devices to connect to your Yahoo mail then all three are needed.
How To Setup Yahoo Email IMAP And SMTP Settings?
Setting up Yahoo email for using all the email at one place, not only make your work easy and also save your time. Managing everything in one place makes work trouble-free. Therefore, to access the Yahoo mail seamlessly you need to follow the below step to make some changes.
Open the program’s new account wizard and enter the below settings:
- Yahoo Mail IMAP server: imap.mail.yahoo.com
- Enter 993 in IMAP port box
- IMAP TLS/SSL: Yes
- IMAP user name: Here you need to enter your complete Yahoo email address
- IMAP password: Here you can enter wither your Yahoo Mail password or app password
Note: Yahoo app password is the password that you need to generate through the Yahoo app if your mail is protected with Two-factor authentication. This password is for single use and allows a specific program to access your Yahoo mail account. If using this, you won’t need to enter your Yahoo mail password.
- Yahoo Mail SMTP server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
- SMTP Port: 465 (try 587 as an alternative)
- SMTP TLS/SSL, click on Yes
- SMTP username: Here, again enter your Yahoo mail address
- SMTP password: Your Yahoo Mail password
Two-factor authentications, of course, keep your email protected, but sometimes may people forget that they had set it. If your Yahoo email settings have two-factor authentications, then you will need to login to your Yahoo email account using that one-time app-generated email password. Every time you login using any computer or mobile device, you have to use the app-generated password.
